This is a quilt of unkept promises on three scales: global, local, and personal.
- The global promise is an excerpt from a speech at COP26 urging developed nations to be leaders in preventing global warming.
- The local promise is an excerpt from a letter to parents from a charter school system that claims to priotize students' academic success and well-being.
- The personal promise is an excerpt from a love letter.
The quilt is made of found materials (used bed sheets, old embroidery thread) and vegetable dye. The numbers and shapes of the quilt are a cipher of the three promises. The quilt was displayed at the 2024 RISD Digital+Media biennial exhibition "They Keep Changing the Key" alongside a projector that displays hints to decoding the cipher. Shout out to my Aunt Nancy who spent a few hours decoding the entire thing :)
